The Big D of Texas — Big Heart, Big Crowd, Big Memories

What a wonderful and deeply moving screening of our documentary, “Vietnam War: Untold Stories from the South — Trials, Triumphs & Tragedies”, in Dallas this Saturday, May 23.
The auditorium was filled with people young and old — veterans, families, community leaders, and members of the next generation — all coming together to remember, to learn, and to honor the truth of our history.

This unforgetable gathering would not have been possible without the tremendous support of Reverend Jonh Dương Nguyễn, Dr. Trọng Phan, Professor Thanh Tran and many dedicated friends in the Dallas Vietnamese American community. Their kindness, gểnosity, leadership, and commitment helped make this event truly special.

We were also deeply grateful for the presence and support of Steve Sherman and his family, along with members of Vietnam Veterans for Factual History, who drove all the way from Houston to be with us. The presence of Richard Botkin, author and filmmaker behind Ride the Thunder, flying in from San Antonio almost moved me to tears. Their support reminded me once again that the bond between Americans and Vietnamese who fought for freedom is not only historical — it is personal, lasting, and sacred.

We were especially honored by the presence of the legendary actor Trần Quang, General Việt Lương, the pride of the Vietnamese community, and many other distinguished guests whose lives and service remind us why these stories must be told.

The audience’s comments and questions were priceless. We will take them to heart and incorporate them into our next projects. Every screening has taught us something new, and Dallas gave us not only a full house, but also full hearts.

I truly believe that God has a plan — and so far, it has been a good plan for us. In Asian culture, we often say that things happen for a reason. There is destiny, and there is debt — duyên and nợ. Through this journey, I have had the privilege of making new friends and reconnecting with old ones. But I also feel the burden — and the honor — of repaying a debt to those who fought for my safety, my freedom, and the freedom of so many others.

Dallas reminded me once again that the Vietnamese spirit remains strong — across generations, across communities, and across America. We remember not only what was lost, but also what was preserved: courage, dignity, faith, family, gratitude, and the unbreakable desire for freedom.

Thank you, Dallas — the Big D gave us a big and unforgettable welcome.
